Hope for Transparency

Conceptual Fashion, 2017

My goal was to design an activism project that raises awareness about our unsustainable fashion industry, and that inspire individuals to think about the people that make our clothes and extreme work conditions they’ve endure to make our everyday clothes. I used transparent fabric (tulle) to create staple wardrobe pieces, silhouettes that are produced by thousands daily, garments that each one of us owns. The garments in the installation are transparent because I wanted to make visual connection with the idea of invisibility, or ghostliness, or absence. I choose to have my designs hanging in an installation rather than traditionally on a body to further push the symbolism of absence. I wanted to make art that encourages the fashion industry to be transparent, rather the people who are making our clothes.
